How Do We Stay Healthy on the Road?

Before we started full time RV life, we knew that we wanted to be able to bring our "gym" with us on the road. We had to find a rig that would allow us to carry weights, as we moved from one place to the next. We landed on a toy hauler pretty quickly, realizing that would give us the space and capacity to carry heavy workout gear. Carrying our gym allows us to workout no matter where we park. Our kids can play and we can exercise. We realize that not all rvers want to carry gym gear in their RV, but there are other ways to stay healthy on the road.

With three years of full time RV life under our belts, we have learned a few ways to stay healthy while traveling full time. Here are four of the ways that we love to stay healthy while traveling in an RV: Use the gym or create one, Take walks, Find outside adventures, Cook your own meals.

Use the gym or create one

Many resorts like Talona Ridge RV Resort offer a gym with the basics needed to get your body moving. I love use the treadmill in the gym on rainy days for either a run or a walk on an incline. Most resorts also have a decent set of light weight dumbbells. I love to search for a quick class on YouTube and use the dumbbells. You can also create a gym at your RV, even with very little gear. I would suggest getting a jump rope, a set of elastic resistance loops, and a set of adjustable dumbbells. These are all items that don't take up too much space, but they give you the ability to have a little gym right at your rv space.

Take Walks

Taking daily walks is an easy way to get outside and stay active each day. We love to figure out different routes throughout a resort so that we can get in a good two mile walk each day. Some resorts have beautiful scenery as you walk, or others might even offer their own walking path right in the resort. This is a great activity for us to be able to do as a husband and wife, it allows us to stay active together. The kids also love to hop on their bikes or scooters to make it a family activity.

Find outside adventures

Finding trails is my favorite way to get exercise while traveling. There are so many hiking trails or parks with walking trails to explore. We love to ask at the office for great suggestions on where to hike or walk. You can also hop on Google to search for walking and hiking paths near the resort.

Cook your own meals

It can be so tempting to try all of the food trucks at a resort or local restaurants in town when you travel. This is great when we are on vacation and we want to take a break from cooking. But as full time travelers we have to find ways to eat healthy. We love to cook the majority of our meals. We love to cook outside on our griddle or grill. This allows us to cook healthy meats and veggies, and also enjoy them outside when we can.

Staying healthy while traveling full time does a little more thought and planning, but it is worth it in the end!
